The Designer Yuan Li
Since she came to London in 2001 as a fashion student in University Art London, Yuan Li has kept her Chinese heritage, absorbed essence of British culture, European history and art, and grown up again with circle of Bohemian artists and muses in East London.
As a fashion designer for 15 years she has created a distinctive style in women's bridal, evening wear and couture millinery. While she worked for evening wear company Ariella Fashion, her designs were awarded by UKFT and received award fro HRH Princess Anne.
While working as couture designer, her designs have become favourites of celebrities such as Myleene Klass, Beverley Knight, Holly Willoughby, Michelle Keegan, Camilla Dallerup etc. , for their red carpet events and were featured in major magazines, TV and newspapers such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, BBC, ITV etc.
In 2011, for the iconic Playboy club reopening in London, based on the famous 60s Bunny outfit she has recreated limited edition "Union Jack bunny outfits" that wowed club’s launching night.
Few years ago she encountered famous British milliner Stephen Jones at Eurostar train station, their conversation and the love of classic glamour from the gone-by era, inspired her become a milliner. Gradually, she kept learning, finally she quit a well paid position as Head of design, and started her own label Yuan Li London.
Creativity is art, craftsmanship is a journey, just like what Stephen Jones said to her, “Don’t make hats if you wanted a easy life, but if you want to do something extraordinary and fascinating, DO become a milliner!”
